Defeat Garden

Posted on: June 6, 2010

This is a recipe that is in our farm newsletter last year and this year.  I think it may be a perennial favorite, and for good reason!

Here are the ingredients for this one:

1 bunch turnips w/ greens

onions (we used some from the farmer’s market)

butter and olive oil

(optionally) rice or small pasta (of course, this doesn’t really fit into our way of eating, so I just skipped it)

Chop up the turnips and onions while you’re melting about 2 Tablespoons of butter in a pan.  Add to the pan, adding olive oil if needed.  Let them saute until softened, about 8 minutes.

Roughly chop the turnip greens, and add them to the pan with the raisins.  Let this cook for a few minutes until the greens are slightly wilted.  Enjoy!

We had ours with quick and easy lemon pepper chicken – I heated up some olive oil and put lemon pepper in the pan so I’d only have to season the chicken once.  Then I browned one side (and seasoned the other), flipped it over and covered for about 10 minutes – perfect chicken 🙂
