Runza Skillet

In case you hadn’t noticed from some of my previous posts, it’s been a little busy around our house the past few weeks with running all over trying to make it to ball games!  The man has been a HUGE help the last couple of game nights and cooked supper for us while I was running around getting the kids and getting home after work.  This one is a carry over from when we ate bread that has really adapted itself well 🙂

The man got this recipe from one of his former co-workers.  It’s a pound (or so) of ground meat (beef and turkey both work well), some cabbage, some onion, and a few seasonings all thrown into one dish.  If you like, you can add cheese to it (sooo good!) and even some Bisquick or canned biscuits to the top.  In the old days, we used to mix it all up and throw it into the oven until the bread was cooked, but now we just fry it all together in the pan and serve.

Here was another one for make ahead ease.  I chopped up half a head of gorgeous Chinese cabbage from our CSA (man, I wish I had a picture of it, it was just beautiful!), and an onion that morning before going to work and stuck in the fridge.  If I would have had time to shred cheese, I would have, but I didn’t want to be late for work 🙂

When the man got home, he pulled them out, heated up the pan, let them fry while browning the beef, and then threw it all together with garlic salt (genius flavor!) and pepper.  It’s also good with paprika.  I wish I could bottle the smell as we walked into the house!  Yum!
